Why a home studio means flexibility for my clients
Ross Butler, author of ‘Invest like a barbarian’
On Monday afternoon I had an urgent WhatsApp from a past client (OK, for complete transparancy, a client whom also happens to be my brother).
‘Any chance you can do a headshot for my new book cover? I need it by tomorrow?’
Erm…
I was up in London the following day, so I gave him two options: a) after our supper at 7.45pm; or before I left circa 7.30am?
He opted for the former (phew!) and I was able to leave the dishes (hurrah!) and spend an hour or so coming up with a good branding picture that would capture sincerity; authority and expertise for his new book. We ended up with a selection plus some images for his portfolio to post regularly on LinkedIn and other formats.
Meanwhile, I realised that having a home studio meant that I can offer that flexibility to my clients. With my family growing up, it works leaving them to their own devices (literally) for a few hours while I do an unscheduled shoot at home.
It’s not the first time I have had panicked requests for last-minute pictures with print or other deadlines. I’ve always managed to fulfil them and mainly because I have great locations on my doorstep to do lifestyle shoots, and an at-home studio to do the more professional shots clients may be looking for.
